CHESTER, Pa. – A second half goal from senior
Adriana Careless lifted Ursinus Women's Soccer to a 1-0 win on the road over Widener on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 3-1 overall and the Pride dropped to 2-2.
Widener had a couple of chances early in the contest and their first attempt from distance was snatched by sophomore goalkeeper
Mallory Toomey. The Pride then led a rush in the fifth minute before Toomey shut down a shot from the left before stopping a close-range shot in the 15

Paige Flaugh had a long free kick saved and first-year
Abby Godown had her shot in the 24
th minute cut off. Sophomore
Kaleigh Evans had a chance in the final minute of the first half saved to send the game scoreless into halftime.
Careless got the Bears on the board in the 66
th minute with a one touch strike from 10 yards out after getting a pass from the right by junior
Sophia Cooper. Sophomore
Claire Shoemaker initially stole it from a Pride midfielder and sent a perfect ball to Cooper who led the rush with Careless for the goal. Widener nearly tied it just over a minute later when a header to the left of the net was batted away by Toomey. Widener had a quick rush in the 88
th minute and got one last shot off that was caught by Toomey.
The Pride held a 15-9 shot advantage for the game and a slight 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Widener also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks as well. Toomey made eight saves in the full 90 minutes to earn her second shutout of the season. Pride goalkeeper Araba Abanyie tallied four saves in the full time and was saddled with the loss.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, September 13
th as they will head back on the road to take on Gwynedd Mercy at 12:00 p.m.
