COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Tennis opened play in the first Ursinus Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts.
The Bears started the two-day invitational with Albright, Arcadia, and Alvernia with 11 players competing in head-to-head matches.
In doubles action, first-year
Bogdan Maksimovic and
Deniz Finkel started off with a 6-1 win over Luke Brisbois and Lucas Montello and Finkel teamed up with senior
Andrei Bogdan to earn a 6-3 triumph over Matias Contreras and Enrico Pucci. Junior
Teddy Snyder and first-year
James Fassbender defeated Duncan McDowell and Troy O'Malley of Alvernia 6-1 while junior
Noah Dichter and Bogdan won 7-5 over Pucci and Dylan Huha of Albright. Dichter teamed up with sophomore
Russell Nour to take down Leo Russo and Adam Good of Albright 6-2 and sophomore
Charles DiCicco and first-year
Pierce Rohlfing won 6-3 over Nikolai Damman and Charles Coleman of Albright. Rohlfing and sophomore
Devin Carter dropped a 6-1 match to Russo Matias Contreras of Albright while Snyder and Maksimovic were edged 6-4 by Huha and Karim Fattal of Albright.
The Bears won all seven singles against Arcadia and Finkel won a thrilling 9-8 (7-1) match over Bernardo Figueiredo while Snyder defeated Aaron Allen 8-2. Dichter bested Kevin McHale 8-4 and Bogdan defeated Luis Figueiredo 8-1. Nour took down Leo DuPont 8-3 and Maksimovic bested Stas Bazarov 8-3. DiCicco defeated Jason Small 8-0 to complete the sweep.
Rohlfing downed Russo of Albright 8-6 in singles action while Carter lost 8-1 to Marcelo Menchaca, Fassbender was downed 8-4 by Pucci, and first-year
Jacob Ohrin lost 8-1 to Damman.
Ursinus returns to action tomorrow, September 13
th as they will wrap up the Ursinus Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m.
