Volleyball Takes on Moravian

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Volleyball team was defeated 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 20-25, 24-26) by Moravian on Friday night at Helfferich Hall.
 

Four Bears finished in double-figures for kills led by senior Lexi Couch with 12 while adding six digs. Senior Mel Eglinton tallied a kill-dig double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs while classmate Zoe George recorded a career-high 10 kills, five digs, and three blocks. First-year Lauren McGinn registered 24 digs, 10 kills, and three aces.
 

Ursinus took control of the first set early by starting with a 4-1 advantage before extending it to 8-3. The Bears then went up 13-7 and held their six-point lead to 15-9. Moravian rallied to get within one point at 17-16, but the Bears responded by winning seven of the next eight points to go up 24-17. The Greyhounds rallied to get within three at 24-21 until a kill from Eglinton ended the set.
 
 
Moravian started fast in the second set and never trailed by starting with a 5-1 lead. Ursinus only got within two the rest of the way in the second set at 10-8 before the Greyhounds pulled away.
 

Ursinus went up 4-0 in the third set and held a 9-2 advantage. The Bears held a 15-9 advantage until the Greyhounds won 16 of the last 21 points to go up 2-1 in the match.
 
 
The Bears battled back from an early 5-2 deficit and went up 10-8 in the fourth set. The teams traded runs throughout the fourth set and the Bears seemingly gained control of the set by going up 22-17 and reaching set point at 24-19. Moravian then won the last six points of the set.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, September 20th as they will host Cedar Crest and Goucher for a tri-match starting at 11:00 a.m.
