Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 13 Field Hockey Outlasts No. 15 Lynchburg 1-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 13 Ursinus Field Hockey team earned a gutsy 1-0 win over No. 15 Lynchburg at Liberty University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the win, the Bears improved to 4-1 overall behind their fourth straight win and second over a nationally ranked team this season. Meanwhile, the Hornets of the OId Dominion Athletic Conference fell to 3-3 overall.

Ursinus needed just one goal to win the game and they got it 1:09 into the game when senior Gigi Testa scored on a mad scramble in the box following a penalty corner. The Hornets had a shot to tie the game in the fourth minute off a penalty corner but had their shot turned away by Bears senior goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti. The Hornets kept the pressure on the Bears into the second quarter as they had another shot hit the post and stay out of the net. Junior Kirsten Johnson had a chance saved in the 23rd minute before senior Rachel Buono got a shot saved from a penalty corner seconds later following Johnson's shot. Palladinetti kept her big day going by saving two more Hornets shots and sent the game into the half at 1-0.

Lynchburg had a trio of shots in the 35th minute turned away by a block and a pair of Palladinetti saves. Ursinus did not register a shot in the fourth quarter but held on thanks to Palladinetti's heroics. Lynchburg put three shots on net in a 25 second span that were all turned away by Palladinetti in the 48th minute. She made one last save off a penalty corner opportunity in the 49th minute and the Bears locked it down the rest of the way to preserve the win.

The Hornets held a 21-6 shot advantage and an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. Lynchburg held a 13-4 advantage in penalty corners as well. Palladinetti matched a career high 11 saves in the full 60 minutes for her second shutout of the week while Shay Schoones made four saves in the full 60 minutes.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, September 17th as they will travel to face Messiah at 7:00 p.m.
