EWING, N.J. – The No. 11 Ursinus Field Hockey team was defeated by a late fourth quarter goal against No. 20 TCNJ on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Bears came out strong in the first quarter as they drew a pair of penalty corners in the first five minutes and put three shots on the Lions goal. Junior Kirsten Johnson was awarded a penalty stroke, but she hit the right post with her shot. TCNJ had one shot in the first quarter, and it resulted in a goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Neither team recorded a shot in the second quarter despite the Bears drawing four penalty corners.
Ursinus continued to pressure the Lions net in the third quarter and finally broke through in the 38th minute when senior Gigi Testa knocked in a second chance shot after an initial defensive save to tie the game at one. However, the Lions controlled most of the play in the fourth quarter and scored the go-ahead goal with 5:37 left in regulation following a penalty corner.
Ursinus held a 14-7 shot advantage for the game and a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. The Bears also held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners as well. Senior goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti made four saves in the full 60 minutes while Brigitte Racey tallied nine saves.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, September 27th as they will travel to face No. 25 Dickinson in their Centennial Conference opener at 12:00 p.m.
