WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Soccer team got a late goal from junior
Matthew Lohr to earn a 2-1 win over Wilkes in non-conference action on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Bears improved to 2-3-2 overall while the Colonels fell to 1-5-2 on the season.
Wilkes initially took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute after getting a second chance opportunity following a corner kick. The Bears had a shot saved in the 13
th minute and nearly tied the game in the 33
rd minute when first-year
Jacob Santamaria sent a shot off the crossbar. Each team had a pair of shots saved in the final 10 minutes to send the game to the half still at 1-0.
First-year
Eliot Bowen tied the game at one in the 60
th minute after he tapped in a free kick from outside of the box. Ursinus continued to pressure the Wilkes net as the second half continued and had a trio of shots saved to keep the game tied at one. Lohr delivered his winner with 8:19 left in regulation after a deep shot from the right corner of the box found its way through traffic in front of the net. Junior
Matthew McFadden nearly extended the Bears lead in the 86
th minute after hitting the crossbar with his shot. Wilkes also had shot go off the crossbar a minute later before having one last chance shot saved in the 88
th minute.
The Bears held a 17-13 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also had a slight 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. First-year goalkeeper
Jaden Ottley earned the win after making four saves in 90 minutes while Wilkes goalkeeper Matthew Conti made six saves in the loss.

th as they will travel to face McDaniel at 3:00 p.m.
