Volleyball Bested by Stockton in Home Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Volleyball team returned home for the first time in the 2025 season and dropped a match in straight sets to Stockton (25-15, 25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday night at Helfferich Hall in non-conference action.

Senior Lexi Couch powered the Bears with a career-high 14 kills behind a sizzling .545 hitting percentage that helped keep Ursinus in the sets. Senior Mel Eglinton added eight kills and nine digs while classmate Erin Dychdala compiled 17 assists, five digs, and for kills.

The Bears started strong in the first set by taking an early 8-4 advantage behind multiple kills and aces. However, the Ospreys won 12 of the next 14 points to take a 16-10 lead. The run ultimately helped Stockton take full control of the first set as they won nine of the last 11 points after the Bears initially rallied with three straight points.

Much like the first set, the Bears gained the early lead at 7-3 before the Ospreys won five straight points to go up 8-7. This time, however, Ursinus ripped the lead back by taking a 13-11 lead after winning four of six points with the set tied at nine. The Bears took a 16-14 lead after an attack error which forced a Stockton timeout. The Ospreys then won seven of the next nine points out of the timeout to go up 21-18. The Bears pulled within one at 21-10, but the Ospreys won the final four points to take the set.

Stockton went up 5-2 in the third set before a three straight point run by the Bears tied the set up at five. The Ospreys won eight of the next 10 points to take a 13-7 lead to seemingly take full control of the third set. Ursinus battled back to get within one point at 15-14 and won seven of eight points after trailing 18-15 to go up 22-19. Stockton struck back with the decisive run of the match out of a timeout by winning six of the last seven points with five of them coming from kills.

The Bears return to action on Friday, September 12th as they will host Moravian at 7:00 p.m.
