Five Women's Wrestlers Place at PA Collegiate Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team placed seventh at the PA Collegiate State Championships on Saturday, hosted by East Stroudsburg University.

 
Seven Bears competed across four weight classes, totaling 14.5 team points. No. 15 East Stroudsburg claimed the team title with 85.5 points, followed by Lock Haven (63), No. 10 Lehigh (39) and Pitt-Johnstown (34).
 

First-years Aubree Butler (110), Charlotte Bowman (160) and sophomore Ashley Diaz (124) led the Ursinus lineup by finishing fourth in their respective weight classes. First-years Kloi Tighe (124) and Marty Morrison (160) added fifth-place finishes for the Bears.
 

At 110 pounds, Butler opened the tournament with a 10-0 victory by superiority over Alvernia's Remiah Rivera before falling in the semifinals to top-seeded and seventh-ranked nationally Teegan Sibble of East Stroudsburg by fall at the 1:21 mark. In the third-place bout, Butler fell by fall to ESU's Tiana Savino to place fourth.
 

Diaz and Tighe shined in the 124-pound weight class, combining for six victories. Tighe opened with a pin in the round of 16 over Alvernia's Alana Durham but dropped an 11-9 decision in the quarterfinals to eventual runner-up Pitt-Johnstown's Isabel Alvarez. In consolation action, Tighe recorded a 22-second pin over Danny Taranto and advanced by forfeit into the consolation semifinals. After falling to Diaz by a 6-2 score, she secured an 8-7 decision over Penn State Altoona's fourth-seeded Richele Reyes to finish fifth.
 

Diaz earned an 8-7 decision over third-seeded Olivia Palmer in the quarterfinals. With the score tied 4-4, Diaz used a four-point maneuver to pull ahead for the decision. She later fell 10-0 to top-seeded Jayleah Pletz of Lock Haven but reached the consolation finals with a 6-2 victory over Tighe. Diaz closed the tournament with a fourth-place finish after a 16-9 loss to ESU's Olivia Palmer.
 

At 160 pounds, Bowman posted a 2-2 record en route to a fourth-place finish. She recorded a 3-1 decision over ESU's Angelica Ramos in the quarterfinals and a 2-1 decision over ESU's Jade Huerta in the consolation semifinals to advance to the third-place bout. Bowman battled back from an early 8-2 deficit against ESU's Marlo Williams, scoring five straight points in the final minute, but ultimately fell by an 8-7 decision. On the opposite side of the bracket, Morrison opened with a pin at the 2:18 mark over Muhlenberg's Kelsey Geib. She later added victories by injury default and a 49-second fall over ESU's Angelica Ramos to secure fifth place.
 

First-year Felicity Davis earned two victories by fall in the 138-pound bracket. She opened with a pin at the 2:48 mark over Washington & Jefferson's Kenzie Phasupong before pinning W&J's Giada Pitzarella at the 1:28 mark to finish with a 2-2 record.
 

The Bears return to action Saturday, January 31st, traveling to McDaniel College for a quad meet against McDaniel and Muhlenberg, beginning at noon.
