Softball Opens 2026 Season at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ursinus Softball team opened its 2026 season with a doubleheader against Catholic in non-conference action.

Game 1
After the Bears were retired in order, senior pitcher Christa Andrusiewicz worked around a leadoff double to get out of the bottom of the inning unscathed. However, Catholic took advantage of an error and took a 1-0 lead on a two-out double. Andrusiewicz worked out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the bottom of the third. Ursinus advanced just one runner past second base in the game and the Cardinals tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth that ended up being the final of 3-0. The Bears were limited to just three hits with Andrusiewicz tallying two of them.

Game 2
Catholic jumped on the Bears right in the bottom of the first by scoring four runs on two hits to go up 4-0. The Cardinals got a two-out two-run home run to cap the inning after taking advantage of a hit by pitch, walk, and wild pitch. Ursinus got two runs back in the top of the third when senior Kayla Carr roped a two-out two-run home run that made it 4-2. Sophomore pitcher Lucy Wolf worked out of a bases loaded jam with two outs to keep the game at 4-2 in the bottom of the third. A second two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth put Catholic back up four runs at 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ursinus rallied in the top of the seventh behind first-year Nina Davidson doubling in classmate Addison Hessler to make it 6-3. Carr grounded out to cut the deficit to 6-4 before a strikeout ended the game. Carr went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and one run scored to lead the Bears in the game.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, March 3rd as they will host Moravian for their home opener at 3:00 p.m.
