COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Dana DeSiato recorded her 100th career point in a career best performance in the Ursinus Women's Lacrosse team's 20-1 dominant win over Alvernia on Wednesday afternoon at Patterson Field in non-conference action.
The Bears improved to 4-2 overall while the Golden Wolves fell to 1-5.
Ursinus got to rolling early as junior
Jaime Michaud scored on a woman-down opportunity at the 13:05-mark of the first quarter to get the early 1-0 lead. The Bears took advantage of a woman-up opportunity just 43 seconds later as first-year
Devin Buggy one-timed a pass from senior
Skyler Bogdan to make it 2-0. DeSiato added her first at the 8:24-mark and junior
Whitney Hershey quickly made it 4-0 at the 6:04-mark with her first unassisted tally. Junior
Ryann Buchner snuck a goal past the Golden Wolves goalkeeper to make it 5-0 under a minute later before DeSiato scored her second goal at the 4:50-mark to make it 6-0. DeSiato played helpers on the next two Ursinus goals to close out the first quarter as she found Hershey that made it 7-0 and Michaud with 1:07 left in the first quarter that made it 8-0. Buchner quickly extended the Bears lead to 9-0 less than two minutes into the second quarter and junior
Brynn Bastian-Pastore scored her first at the 11:41-mark to get the Bears to double-digits. Sophomore Jermi Morrison caused a turnover and scored off it to make it 11-0 before the Bears scored their 12th and final goal of the first half in the final minute on another tally from Michaud that came from a failed Alvernia clear.
Michaud responded to the only Alvernia goal of the game at the 9:47-mark of the third quarter with her fourth of the game to bring the score back to 13-1 and Bogdan notched her first and only goal of the game at the 3:11-mark that made it 14-1. DeSiato then tallied back-to-back goals to reach the 100-career point mark early in the fourth quarter to make it a 16-1 game. Bogdan connected with Buggy again for the 17th goal and Hershey completed a hat trick at the 7:08-mark that made it 18-1. Junior
Brooklyn Roe got in on the scoring with 2:47 left in regulation and first-year
Gabrielle Eaise finished the game with her first collegiate goal in the final minute off a free position shot.
The Bears held a whopping 34-4 shot advantage for the game and a 27-4 advantage in shots on goal. Ursinus held a 17-12 edge in ground balls and caused 24 turnovers while going a perfect 13-for-13 in clears. The Bears also held a 15-6 advantage in draw controls as well. Addi Guthrie-Pimpinella made three saves with a first half shutout. Sophomore
Allison McAnally saw 23:11 of action and senior
Susie Miller closed out the final 6:48. Addison Bolz made eight saves in 45 minutes for Alvernia.
DeSiato had a career day by registering 11 points on four goals and seven assists. The 11 points ties for the second-most points tallied by an Ursinus Women's Lacrosse player in a single game and the first player to hit 11 points since Alyssa Thren in 2012. Michaud recorded five points off four goals and one assist and Hershey added three goals. Bogdan recorded three points from two assists and one goal while Buggy plus Buchner tallied two goals apiece. Eaise added two points off a goal and assist.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 14th as they will travel to face Christopher Newport at 1:00 p.m.
