COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off previously unbeaten Stockton 12-10 on a windy Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears tallied their fourth win in a row to move to 4-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Ospreys fell to 6-1 overall after receiving a vote in the latest USILA poll last week.
The Bears started red hot as they scored the first four goals of the game in the first quarter to go up 4-0 at the 5:51-mark. Junior
Will Hussa scored the first goal of his collegiate career to open the game at the 14:09-mark after leading a fast break clear. Senior
Barrett Denlinger cashed in on a man-up opportunity just under a minute later that made it 2-0 and sophomore
Quentin Kuehn scored his first collegiate goal at the 9:53-mark after a failed clear from the Ospreys. Senior
Harry Sweitzer capped the opening run with his first goal of the game from the top. Stockton scored the next two goals to make it a 4-2 game at the 9:04-mark before first-year
Landon Rasmus snuck his first collegiate goal in at the 5:26-mark to bring the score to 5-2. Senior
Aidan Kirk responded to an Ospreys goal with an unassisted tally at the 3:46-mark to make it 6-3, but Stockton closed the first half with back-to-back goals that made it 6-5.
The Ospreys kept their run going to tie the game for the first time at six 1:07 into the third quarter until sophomore
Daniel Rice put the Bears back in front at 7-6 with 9:32 left in the third quarter. Stockton responded with two quick goals in a 1:04 span to take their first lead at 8-7 before Rice knotted things back up at the 6:15-mark. Ursinus seemingly took the lead back with just over two minutes left in the third quarter, but a crease violation took the goal off the board. Stockton quickly cleared the ball and scored to go back in front at 9-8 with 1:48 left in the third. The Ospreys cashed in on a man-up opportunity at the 13:35-mark of the fourth quarter to take their first multi-goal lead of the game at 10-8. Ursinus began their comeback when Sweitzer scored off a low bouncer to make it 10-9 at the 11:06-mark. Sweitzer then got a helper to Rasmus in front of the crease that tied the game at 10 with 7:10 left in regulation after having his initial shot saved. Rice gave the Bears the lead at 11-10 after Sweitzer found him wide open on the left side of the crease at the 5:39-mark before Rice repaid the favor 1:21 later to Sweitzer that made it 12-10. The Ospreys had multiple quality shot chances to rally, but Bears sophomore goalkeeper
Colin Daroch stood tall with six saves in the final 3:32 to preserve the win.
Stockton held a 41-33 shot advantage for the game and each team tallied 21 shots on goal. The Bears held a 37-34 ground ball advantage behind a 16-10 faceoff win edge. Daroch made 11 saves in the full 60 minutes for the Bears while a pair of Ospreys goalkeepers split 30 minutes with Ben Blum making three saves and Tyler Sininsky made six saves.
Rice and Sweitzer each registered five points on three goals and two assists in addition to Sweitzer having six ground balls. Rasmus netted two goals and Homan had two assists while Hussa scored a goal and caused four turnovers.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 21st as they will host Franklin & Marshall at 12:00 p.m. to open Centennial Conference play.
