KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus Softball team rallied for a 7-5 walk-off win over Edgewood on Wednesday morning on their fourth game day in Florida for their spring break trip.
Following a 1-2-3 top of the first, first-year
Tierney Stuempfle singled in the Bears first run to make it 1-0 after senior
Christa Andrusiewicz led the inning off with a single of her own. Edgewood got a pair of runs in the top of the second to go up 2-1 following a bases-loaded hit by pitch and single. The teams traded zeros until the top of the fifth when the Eagles scored two runs off four hits and one error to go up 4-1. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out and scored the first run off a throwing error before getting the second run off a two-out RBI single. Edgewood seemingly put the game away when they led the top of the sixth off with a home run to make it 5-1, but the Bears rallied with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at five. Singles from Stuempfle and sophomore
Reagan Robinson led off the inning before a sacrifice bunt moved them up a base. Sophomore
Anna Evanchik singled in Stuempfle and stole second to keep the threat going. A strikeout made it two outs and first-year
Alexia Weidner drew a walk to load the bases. First-year
Maddie Rea cleared the bases with a three-run double to tie the game and was thrown out at third base trying to leg out a triple to end the inning. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh but were unable to get any runs after a force out at home plus a fly out. Andrusiewicz singled to start the inning and senior
Kayla Carr crushed a two-run walk-off home run to win the game in the ensuing at-bat. The Bears finished their day by taking on Maine-Farmington shortly after their walk-off win.
Robinson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run scored while Stuempfle went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Andrusiewicz went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and picked up the win with a complete game in the circle.
The Bears conclude their spring break trip on Friday, March 20th as they will take on Cortland at 10:00 a.m. and Bates at 12:30 p.m.
