KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus softball team wrapped up their Florida Spring Break trip against Cortland and Bates on Friday morning.
The Bears started strong against the Red Dragons by jumping on them for three runs off four hits to go up 3-0 in the top of the first. Senior
Christa Andrusiewicz led the inning off with a single and made her way to third from a single and passed ball. She gave the Bears a 1-0 lead by scoring off a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Reagan Robinson. Sophomore
Anna Evanchik roped a single to left field that ended up allowing two runs to score after a fielding error from the left fielder. However, the Red Dragons scored six runs, all of which came with two outs, to go up 6-3. Cortland added four more runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 10-3. Senior
Kayla Carr hit her fifth home run of the Florida trip in the top of the fifth that made it 10-4 before the Red Dragons scored two in the bottom half to enact the run rule at 12-4.
Against Bates, the Bobcats got a pair of singles to start the inning and took advantage of a throwing error to advance bases. Bates went up 1-0 following an RBI groundout in the next at-bat. The score stayed the same until the top of the fourth when the Bobcats scored three runs off five hits and an error to go up 4-0. The Bears got a run back off an RBI groundout from Robinson but were unable to cut more into the 4-1 deficit.
First-years
Tierney Stuempfle,
Nina Davidson, and
Alexia Weidner all had two hits for the Bears against Cortland along with Evanchik. Andrusiewicz and Carr knotted two hits apiece against Bates.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, March 25th as they will host Moravian for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
