Softball Drops a Pair to Moravian

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team returned home to host Moravian on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Snell Field in their first action back following the Florida Spring Break Trip.

In game one, the Bears had runners on first and second with one out following a pair of singles but were unable to advance the runners further. Moravian got onto the board with two runs after taking advantage of an error and getting a two-out RBI single. The Greyhounds broke things open further with four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth to go up 6-0 and eventually took a 9-0 lead in the top of the seventh. Ursinus rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh that made it 9-3 before the final out was recorded. Moravian jumped on the board immediately with five two-out runs in the top of the first before adding two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to go up 10-0. Sophomore Anna Evanchik singled in the lone Bears run of the game in the bottom of the fifth before the run rule was enacted at 10-1 following the fifth inning.

Evanchik went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two with an RBI and Carr combined to go 5-for-7 with a run scored and RBI in the doubleheader. First-year Tierney Stuempfle went 2-for-4 in game one as well.

The Bears return to action tomorrow, March 26th as they will travel to face Immaculata for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
