GLASSBORO, N.J. – A 6-0 run in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Ursinus women's lacrosse team fell, 15-7, on the road to No. 23 Rowan University on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, Ursinus falls to 3-1 overall, while the Profs improved to 2-1. Senior
Ashley Noto led the Bears with three goals, increasing her season total to 15. Senior Skylar Bogdan added a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Devin Buggy scored in her fourth straight contest.
Rowan grabbed an early 1-0 lead at the 11:15 mark of the first quarter before both defenses denied several scoring chances to keep the deficit at one. After a Profs turnover with 4:40 remaining in the period, Noto capitalized to tie the contest at 1-1 with 4:17 left. Ursinus created a fast-break opportunity as junior
Dana DeSiato found Noto cutting through the circle for the goal. With under two minutes to play in the quarter, Ursinus tallied consecutive shots on goal but was unable to convert. Rowan scored in the final minute to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
Ursinus responded to open the second quarter. Starting with possession, Bogdan converted at the 14:34 mark to tie the game at 2-2. She received a pass behind the cage, sprinted past her defender and fired a shot inside the near post for her fifth goal of the season. The Bears continued the momentum with two more shots before Bogdan found Noto for her second goal at the 11:32 mark, giving Ursinus a 3-2 lead. After halftime, Rowan scored at the 13:58 mark of the third quarter to extend its lead to 6-4. The goal ignited a 6-0 Profs run in the period, including two free-position goals, pushing the advantage to 11-4 entering the fourth quarter. Rowan extended its lead to eight at the 11:20 mark of the fourth before sophomore Abby Conney scored to make it 12-5 with 9:20 remaining. Noto and junior
Brynn Bastian-Pastore each added goals down the stretch, but Ursinus could not overcome the deficit.
Rowan held a 33-26 advantage in shots, a 14-8 edge in draw controls and a 13-12 margin in turnovers. First-year goalkeeper
Addi Guthrie-Pimpinella suffered the loss, making a career-high eight saves in 44 minutes. Rowan's Kylie Durboraw earned the win with eight saves in 57 minutes. Elaina Corson led the Profs with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists.
