MADISON, N.J. – In a defensive battle, the Ursinus women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against Drew University on Sunday afternoon at the Drew Fall Festival.
With the draw, Ursinus moves to 3-1-1 on the season while the Rangers sit at 0-1-3 overall. The draw marked the Bears' first since tying Gettysburg, 2-2, on the road last season.
The Bears tallied the first two shots of the contest as first-year
Alexis Whaley's attempt missed wide right and junior
Claire Shoemaker's scoring attempt was saved by the Rangers' goalkeeper in the 18th minute. During the 24th minute, Drew's Zoey Pipher recorded the Rangers' first shot attempt on goal, but a save by first-year goalkeeper
Lexie Albaeck kept the contest scoreless. Junior forward
Taylor Pezulich recorded consecutive shots for the Bears in the 29th minute, but the contest entered halftime tied at zero.
Ursinus denied a pair of the Rangers scoring opportunities to open the second half as Albaeck recorded her second save in the 46th minute, before a pair of corner kicks were turned away by the Bears' defense in the 70th minute. Ellie Frank, before both defenses kept the opposition off the board, resulting in the 0-0 draw.
Ursinus held a 7-4 lead in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, while the Rangers posted a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Albaeck made her second career start in goal for Ursinus, recording two saves and her first career shutout. Drew's Hayden Scotti tallied one save in 90 minutes of action for the Rangers.
The Bears will return to action Saturday, September 19th, when they open Centennial Conference play against Dickinson College at 7 p.m.
