COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Soccer team used a pair of goals from sophomore
Sean McFadden to earn a 2-0 win over Eastern on Tuesday night at Patterson Field in non-conference action.
With the win the Bears improved to 2-2-1 overall while the Eagles fell to 2-1-2 overall.
Ursinus went right on the attack to start in the first half as they got three shots on goal in the first 13 minutes of the game to put on early pressure.
Sean McFadden broke through for his first goal of the night in the 28
th minute after receiving a ricochet off an Eastern defender in the box. Sophomore
Jahsen Cole initially sent the ball into the box and first-year
Ryan O'Neill had a shot blocked right to McFadden. Eastern got its first shot on goal just over a minute later that was saved but the Bears continued to control play. McFadden broke through again in the 41
st minute after knocking in a cross from the right by classmate
Eliot Bowen to make it 2-0. The Eagles tapped a shot towards the Bears net in the final seconds of the first half that was saved. Ursinus did not allow a single shot on goal in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Bears held a 17-9 shot advantage for the game and a sizable 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a slight 10-7 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper
Josiah Moore made two saves in the full 90 minutes to earn the shutout while Eagles goalkeeper Michael Arcuri made five saves in the full time. These were the first two goals of
Sean McFadden's collegiate career.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, September 19
th as they will travel to face Dickinson at 4:00 p.m. in their Centennial Conference opener.
