COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Volleyball team swept their tri-match on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Cedar Crest 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17) and Immaculata 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15) at Helfferich Hall.
Against the Falcons, first-year
Madison Small led the Bears with 13 kills and posted seven digs. Junior
Molly Stevenson recorded 11 digs and seven kills and sophomore
Lauren McGinn recorded 23 assists while adding 12 digs as well. Senior
Alexa Mazzeo matched McGinn with 12 digs as well. Against the Mighty Macs, Stevenson led the way with 13 kills, 11 digs, and four aces while Small and senior
Alonna McCummings added 12 kills apiece. McGinn doubled her one match old career-high of assists with 43 and grabbed 10 digs as well.
After the first set, the Bears responded by going up 3-1 to start the second set and stretched their lead to 8-3. The Falcons won six of the next seven points to get within one point at 9-8 before the Bears responded by taking seven of the next nine points to go up 15-11. Cedar Crest won four straight points to tie the set at 15, however, the Bears gained control of the set by winning seven straight points to go up 22-15. The Falcons drew within three points at 23-20 only to see Ursinus take the set after back-to-back attack errors. Ursinus hit the gas to start the third set and powered out to a 7-2 early advantage and eventually extended it to 10-3. The Bears went up 13-6 before the Falcons won four of the next five points to make it a 14-11 set. Ursinus bounced right back to maintain control by winning of the next seven points to go up 19-13 and staved off a Falcons rally when it became 19-16 by taking six of the last seven points. Ursinus won the first three points of the fourth set and took an early 6-1 lead. The Bears maintained their lead out to 11-5 and did not let the lead fall below four points the rest of the set. Cedar Crest pulled within 20-16 before the Bears won four straight points to reach match point at 24-16 and took the final set 25-17 to lock up the match.
The Bears fell behind 3-0 to Immaculata in the first set and trailed 9-6 before winning seven straight points to go up 13-9. Immaculata won three straight points to make it 13-12 and the Bears countered by winning four straight points to go up 17-12. Immaculata made one last charge and won five of the next six points to pull within 18-17 before the Bears won seven of the last eight points to win the first set. The Bears gained an early 3-1 lead in the second set and eventually went up 8-5. The Bears led 10-7 until the Mighty Macs won six of the eight points to go up 13-12. Ursinus responded by winning five of the next seven points to go up 18-14 and broke through after holding a 19-17 advantage by taking six of the last nine points to take the second set. The Bears won three straight points after holding a 22-20 advantage. The teams traded points in the fourth set which left Immaculata up 4-3 early before the Bears won six straight points to go up 9-4 and then took a commanding 18-5 lead after winning nine straight points. Ursinus went up 21-7 and cruised from there to close the match out despite the Mighty Macs going on a run of winning seven of eight points.

th as they will travel to face Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
