COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind an early goal from senior
Josie Parson, the Ursinus Women's Soccer team picked up a pivotal 1-0 win over Haverford in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Patterson Field.
With the win, the Bears improved to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in Centennial Conference action. The win was the first for the Bears over the Fords since the 2016 season. Meanwhile, Haverford dropped to 3-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in Centennial action.
The Bears got the only goal they needed 5:38 into the contest as Parson headed in a perfect corner kick drop in from junior
Taylor Pezulich. It was the first collegiate goal for Parson. Haverford got a decent chance in the 21
st minute when a shot from the right reached the net before first-year goalkeeper
Lexie Albaeck made a leaping save. Albaeck kept the Fords scoreless with three more saves in the first half. The Fords best chance of the game came in the 58
th minute when a turnover deep in the Bears zone set up Haverford leading scorer, Sophia Mitchell front and center with Albaeck. However, Albaeck stood tall and snatched Mitchell's attempt. Haverford had one more shot reach net three minutes later and the Bears strong defense and ball possession preserved the shutout.
The teams tallied seven shots apiece with the Fords holding a slight 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus held a slight 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Albaeck made six saves in the full 90 minutes to earn her second shutout of the season. Fords goalkeeper Allie Billups made three saves in the entire contest.
