COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's
lacrosse team got a late goal from sophomore midfielder
Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) with just
1:41 remaining in regulation as the Bears (6-2, 2-0 Centennial)
earned a 10-9 win over Haverford (8-1, 1-1 Centennial) late
Wednesday night.
Diehl, who finished with two goals on the day, helped Ursinus
rally from a two-goal deficit with just 10:54 remaining. That was
the second time that the Bears had rallied from a two-game deficit
in the game.
Haverford appeared to have tied the game with 30 seconds left,
but, the goal was waived off due to a foul by an Ursinus player.
The resulting free position shot was saved by senior goalkeeper
Alex McBride (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township).
Trailing 9-7 with just 10:54 left, Ursinus got to within one at
9-8 as senior attack Amy Sezack (Mount Laurel,
N.J./Lenape) scored with 6:03 left. Junior midfielder
Emily Hummel (Lumberton, N.J./Moorestown Friends),
who finished with team-best three goals, scored with 5:36 left to
tied the score at 9-all.
Junior attack Lindsay Urban (Doylestown, Pa./Central
Bucks West) joined Diehl and Sezack with two goals each in
the win.
For Haverford, Josie Ferri finished with three goals and two
assists, while Alexa Pesce had two.
Defensively, Hummel had five groundballs in the win, to go along
with eight saves.
Ursinus will take on defending national champion Franklin &
Marshall at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Lancaster.
