WLax falls to nationally-ranked TCNJ, 20-3

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The College of New Jersey  went on a 13-1 scoring run in the first half as the third-ranked Lions (6-0) defeated Ursinus (3-3) 20-3 on a chilly Tuesday night in women's lacrosse action at Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field.

The Lions fired off 31 shots, while holding Ursinus to just six shots in the contest.

For TCNJ, freshman attack Jen Garavente and junior midfielder Kathleen Notos had four goals each, with junior midfielder Leigh Mitchell, sophomore attack Jillian Nealon and senior midfielder Ali Jaeger each had three. Mitchell had seven assists on the evening.

For Ursinus, senior midfielder Allison Furman (Boyertown) had a goal and an assist, with senior attack Lindsey Urban (C.B. East) and junior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Upper Perkiomen) each netting a goal.

Urban's goal with 26:15 left in the first tied the score at 1-all, before TCNJ scored the next six as Garavente and Notos each tallied two. Mitchell's first goal with 19:27 left, on a free position shot, gave the Lions a 6-1 lead.

Ursinus answered as Thren scored her 20th goal of the year at 17:41, making the deficit 6-2.

However, TCNJ closed the half on a 8-0 run with Nealon scoring with just 34 seconds remaining in the half for a 14-2 halftime edge.

In the second half, Furman scored for Ursinus to lead off the half at 28:49 making the score 14-3, before the Lions scored the last six goals to close the game. Nealon and Mitchell had two goals during the run.

Freshman midfielder Lauren Pigott had six draw controls for TCNJ, while Jaeger netted four ground balls.

For Ursinus, junior attack Kim Peifer (Methacton) had four draw controls, with Furman picking up three ground balls.

In goal, TCNJ senior Mary Waller had one save, with Ursinus splitting time between three goalkeepers. Senior Emma Bacharach (J.P. McCaskey) and sophomore Jackie Kimmel (Hatboro-Horsham) had four saves each, with freshman Riley Pembroke (Langley) netting one.
