Bears continue streak

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The Ursinus women's lacrosse team opened up Centennial action with a win against Swarthmore, defeating the Garnet 12-10, at Patterson Field Saturday afternoon.

The Bears move to 5-1 and 1-0 in the Centennial after the win and Swarthmore goes to 6-1 and 1-1 in the conference.

Freshman midfielder Jayme Verman led the bears with three goals and two assists and Sophomore Forward Devin Brackel also contributed three goals.

Leading the Garnet was senior midfielder Corinne Sommi with three goals and one assist.

In the first half the Bears were the first on the board with a goal from Brackel in the first three minutes. The Garnet and the Bears traded goals until Brakel opened up the game starting a three goal run to push the Bears to a 5-2 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.  In the final minutes Ursinus outscored Swarthmore 3-1 to hold on to a comfortable 8-3 lead going into halftime.

In the second half Swarthmore bounced back going a 7-2 run tying the game on an unassisted goal from Emma Sipperly with 7:47 remaining in the contest.  Only minutes later Mary Deliberti scored the go ahead goal at 5:50 and Ebert finished off the Garnet with another goal with three minutes remaining.

Sophomore goal keeper Margaret Philbin made 13 saves on 23 shots.

The Bears hope to continue their four game winning streak against The College of New Jersey Tuesday March 25th at 7:00 pm
