Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A 4-0 run over the span of 6:22 late in the second half helped Albright (2-0) pull away from Ursinus (0-1) by a score of 11-9 in women's lacrosse play on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.
The Bears, who trailed 7-5 at intermission, pulled even at 7-all on back-to-back goals by freshman attack Taylor DeBernardi (Springfield, Pa./Springfield). The last goal came with 15:58 left in the second half, on an assist by sophomore attack Emma Ebert (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter).
However, Albright got two goals from junior midfielder Amanda Smith and junior attack Erin Farrell to take the win. Farrell's last goal with 5:58 left gave the Lions an 11-7 lead.
Ursinus did score two late goals, one each from freshman attack Jules Krasutsky (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and sophomore midfielder Amy Kohout (West Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), but could not close the gap.
Smith finished the game with a high of five goals for the Lions, with Farrell scoring two.
Ursinus was led by two goals each DeBernardi and senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), while Ebert finished with a goal and a game-high three assists.
The Bears did hold the lead twice in the first half, with the last time coming with 8:22 on a goal by Dawson for a 4-3 advantage.
Individually, junior midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) finished with four draw controls, while two players sophomore defender Lisa Grous (Washington Township, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and freshman defender Franny Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) each had three ground balls.
In goal, junior Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) had five saves in the first half, while freshman Meaghan Corbin (Danville, Calif./Carondelet) had four saves in the second half.
Ursinus goes to Rowan on Wednesday.
