Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Homestanding Swarthmore scored three of the last four game's last four goals as the Garnet (4-2, 1-0 CC) defeated Ursinus (1-6, 0-1 Centennial) 11-8 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. It was the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.
Ursinus had rallied to within one goal in the second half with 22:22 left at 8-7 on a free position goal by junior midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe). However, Swarthmore got goals from Briana Narzikul with 20:56 left, ande one from Elyse Tierney with 8:43 left go up 10-7. Ursinus got one back from sophomore midfielder Lindsey Grabell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) with 8:07 left on an assist from sophomore attack Emma Ebert (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) to get within 10-8, before Kathryn Restrepo scored for Swarthmore with 6:12 left for the final margin 11-8.
Ursinus took an early 2-1 lead in the first half on goals by Deliberti and freshman attack Julia Fleming (Glenside, Pa./Penn Charter), before Swarthmore rallied to go up 3-2. The two teams would then trade ties throughout the first half, before Narzikul scored with 2:09 left for a 6-5 lead for Swarthmore at the half.
For the Bears, Ebert had three goals, while Deliberti had two. Senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) netted two assists. Deliberti and Fleming each had three draw controls, while three players had two ground balls each.
In goal, sophomore Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) had ten saves.
Ursinus hosts TCNJ on Tuesday.
