Women's Lacrosse Falls to Dickinson

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Seniors accounted for all but two goals – several of them on assists to each other – in the Ursinus College women's lacrosse team's 18-8 loss to Dickinson on Saturday.

Celebrating its 11 seniors on Senior Day, the Bears' veterans provided most of the offensive spark for the home side. Rookie Ketlee Staz led Ursinus with two goals, but the others all came courtesy of the Class of 2021.

The opening 10 minutes were all Dickinson, as the visitors piled up a 17-1 shot advantage on the way to a 5-0 lead. A senior connection finally quieted the Red Devil run, with Katherine Eckhoff hitting a cutting Brittney Bedrossian with a perfect pass for the latter's first goal of the season.

Dickinson quickly expanded its lead to 7-1 just past the midway point of the first half, but the Bears gradually began to find their footing and stormed back. Hanna Crowley fed a bullet pass to Reilly Morgan for a top-shelf goal to kickstart a 4-1 burst, which the senior kept going by picking up a rebound from a Hannah Reape free-position attempt and dropping in a goal of her own.

Staz took over from there, scoring back-to-back goals on carbon-copy plays by driving hard past her defender and shooting into the corner of the cage; her second cut the Dickinson margin to 8-5 with 7:34 on the clock.

The teams traded goals to open the second half, Ursinus answering two in a row for Dickinson with consecutive tallies by Grace Langen and Jill Verrelle, who found the back of the cage 40 seconds apart to make it 11-7.

The Red Devils pulled away from there, however, reeling off five in a row before Abby Krasutsky became the latest senior to score for the Bears.

Becca Lewis stuffed the stat sheet with team-leading totals of four draws, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Senior Molly Divis matched her with three grounders and added a caused turnover.

Alexa Machado made a season-high 16 saves between the pipes.
