COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind seven victories by bonus points, the Ursinus College men's wrestling team collected their first dual meet victory of the year with a 39-10 decision over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears earned victories in eight of the ten bouts, with three coming by fall, two by technical fall, and two by major decision. Four first-year student-athletes recorded their first career dual-meet victories while sophomore
Ben Allen (149lbs) won his exhibition match over SVU's Weston Hirschi by a score of 9-1 to kick off the meet.
The dual-meet opened at 174lbs, and first-year grappler
Sean Cowan needed just two minutes and twenty seconds to earn a 17-2 technical fall to give Ursinus an early 5-0 advantage. Classmate
Maxwell Borton increased the Bears lead to 11-0, with a first period pinfall over Southern Virginia's Carson Hyde at 184lbs.
At 197lbs, senior
Connor Fritsch recorded the third-straight bonus point victory with an 8-0 major decision over Loyal Holm. Next, at 285lbs first-year
Mohamed Abdelatty tallied a first period fall over Weston Memmott at the 1:53-mark to give Ursinus a 21-0 lead through four matches.
Ursinus clinched the dual meet over the next two matches as junior
Franco Mazza (125lbs) collected a first period fall and senior
Jagger Clapsadle earned a second period technical fall (15-0) to increase the Bears match lead to 32-0. First-year
Andrew Schaen tallied his first career dual-meet victory behind a 13-3 major decision over Porter Kinne at 141lbs.

Dante Monaco used a 4-1 decision in sudden victory over Southern Virginia's Elijah Blackwell to give Ursinus a 39-0 lead through eight matches. During the next bout at 157lbs, sophomore
Gabriel Heaney bumped up a weight class and fell via an 11-1 major decision to SVU's William Haight. In the final match, sophomore
Joseph Martini III fell by pinfall at the 5:55-mark resulting in the 39-10 final score.

Joe Jamison said. "Guys like
Gabriel Heaney and Joseph Martini bumped up in weight so that we didn't have any forfeits, and both guys wrestled really tough. We are looking forward to getting back in the room to prepare for the New Standard Invitational at York. It's always a date we have circled on our calendar."
The Bears will return to action on Friday, December 1
st as they travel to York, Pennsylvania for the New Standard Invitational.
