ITHACA, N.Y. – Four seniors remain as the Ursinus College men's wrestling team sits in 10
th place after day one of the NCAA Mideast Regionals hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday.
The Bears have totaled 44 team points and currently have four wrestlers still alive for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Senior
Terry Adams advanced to the championship semifinal match at 125lbs with two victories today and can qualify for Nationals with a win in his first match tomorrow. Adams opened with a 9-1 major decision over McDaniel's Alex DeFour and advanced to the semifinals with a 12-7 decision over Alfred State's Mason Drew. In his semifinals match, Adams will match up with the No.1 seed in the bracket Centenary's Jack Thode.
At 184lbs, senior
Gary Nagle remains alive in the consolations as he finished with a 2-1 record after the first day of competition. Nagle finished in fourth place a season ago at the Mideast Regionals and will open with a familiar face in the No. 2 seed and 13
th ranked in the country TCNJ's Quinn Haddad. Nagle and Haddad met earlier this season at the Will Abele Invitational with Haddad coming out on top via a 4-0 decision. Nagle opened his tournament by pinning Elmira's Bryan Stafford at the 1:44-mark before falling in the quarterfinals by a 4-0 decision to RIT's Colby Giroux. He bounced back in the consolations with a 9-1 major decision over Oswego State's Bryce Smith to advance to the second day of competition.
Senior
Kyle Schaffer also advanced to the second day of competition after finishing with a 2-1 record on the day at 197lbs. Schaffer opened with a 6-0 decision over Oswego State's Anthony Cascen but fell in his quarterfinal match with a pinfall to Ithaca's Chibueze Chukwuezi. He bounced back in the blood round by earning a pinfall at the 3:21-mark over Gabriel Kennedy of Pennsylvania College of Technology. Schaffer will meet a familiar competitor in his first match tomorrow as he is slated for a rematch with McDaniel's Jaedyn Harris.
Senior
Jake Ahmad recorded a 3-1 record on the day at 285lbs and remains alive in the consolation round. Ahmad opened with back-to-back victories to advance to the quarter-final round as he opened with a 4-0 decision over McDaniel's Valentino Pryor in his opening match and recorded a pinfall at the 5:23-mark over University of Scranton's Jose Falcon. In the quarterfinals, Ahmad fell via a 6-0 decision to Rochester's Nate DeGroff but bounced back with a 1-0 decision over Johns Hopkins Jake Pomykata to advance to the second day. He will match up with Elmira's Chris Powell in his opening match tomorrow for a chance to advance to the consolation's semifinals.
At 149lbs, senior
Romeo Rodriguez finished his day with a 2-2 record. Rodriguez earned victories in each of his first two matches as he opened with a pinfall over Elmira's Blake O'Brien at the 6:15-mark and collected a 5-1 decision over New Jersey City's Andy Beras. Classmate
Shawn Marchesano finished with a 1-2 record at 165lbs. Marchesano opened with a pinfall at the 1:41-mark over Keystone College's Codi Bomboy before falling in each of his next two matches via decisions.

Joe Jamison said. "He didn't get the results he wanted but we're proud of what he's done for this program on and off the mat."
Juniors
Jagger Clapsadle (133lbs) and
Dante Monaco (149lbs) each finished with a 1-2 record in their respective brackets. After dropping his opening match, Clapsadle bounced back in the consolations with a 16-4 major decision over McDaniel's Romeo Tsai. Monaco collected a victory in his opening match via a pinfall in the preliminary round over Oneonta State's Greg Branch at the 4:08-mark. In his second match, he wrestled the No.1 seed McDaniel's Thomas Monn and fell via a pinfall at the 4:31-mark.
First-year
Anthony Cerulli collected a victory by pinfall in round one of the consolations by defeating University of Pittsburg-Bradford's Kyle Keefe at the 1:12-mark of the first period.
The Bears will return to action tomorrow morning at 11am for the second day of competition at the NCAA Mideast Regionals.
