MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – It was a jump that will live in the Ursinus Track & Field program lore forever. Senior
Rainah Dunham became the first Ursinus Women's Track & Field athlete to become a National Champion at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday evening at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Dunham won the National Championship in the Long Jump on Thursday to make Ursinus Women's Track & Field history. She is the first Ursinus Track & Field Athlete to become an individual National Champion since John Wood in 1989 when he claimed both the shot put and Javelin.
Dunham came out strong to start as she recorded a jump of 5.82 meters that matched her school record that was set at Widener just 10 days ago. She was in third place after the first round of jumps before laying down her National Champion winning jump in the next round at 5.98 meters. Dunham's mark was not even close to being met in the next four rounds as she earned glory. Dunham edged Wisconsin La Crosse's Maya Evans, who finished runner-up at 5.90 meters, and the pair were the only to hit 5.90 meters. Entering Thursday, Dunham was ranked 13th in Division III in the long jump and became the sixth different Centennial Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete to win an individual Outdoor National Championship.
For Dunham, she now has five All-American honors to her name after earning a pair at the 2024 Indoor Championships in the long and triple jump. Dunham also earned All-American in both events as a member of the Gwynedd Mercy Track & Field team in 2019 that was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the triple jump.
Dunham is back to work on Saturday, May 25th as she will compete in the triple jump starting at 3:45 p.m.
