COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three Ursinus College men's wrestlers won their respective weight brackets leading the Bears to a second-place team finish while hosting the Will Abele Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Franco Mazza (125lbs), junior Anthony Cerulli (174lbs), and sophomore Mohamed Abdelatty (285lbs) each won individual titles, while sophomore Andrew Schaen (141lbs) placed second overall. The Bears ranked second as a team finishing with 164 total points with Wesleyan University winning the team title behind a final tally of 168.  Junior Nils Updale (184lbs) and sophomore Braden Kmak (165lbs) each placed third, while first-year Samuel Rock III (285lbs) finished fourth.

We wrestled really well today and made some good strides," Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison said. "The boys are embracing challenges and stepping up in big moments. It's fun to watch."

Mazza opened with a 16-0 technical fall over American International's Jack Sullivan before defeating Alfred State's Mason Drew via a 5-4 decision to reach the semifinals. Next, Mazza collected a 4-1 decision over Wesleyan's Chris Hong to reach the championship bout. During the match, Mazza recorded an escape in the third period to force sudden victory and tallied a takedown in the fourth period to earn the victory. In the finals, Mazza recorded a third-period escape to earn a 6-4 decision over Muhlenberg's Brian McCaw to win the 125lb title.

Cerulli the top seed at 174lbs went 4-0 with three of his victories coming by bonus points including two via pins. He started with a 25-second fall over Camden's Piotr Bochenski and advanced into the semifinals with a 12-0 major decision over WNE's David Lisk. Against Wesleyan's Andrew Maiorini, Cerulli used an opening period takedown and two-point nearfall enroute to a 6-4 victory by decision. Next, versus East Stroudsburg's Robert Burke, he faced an early 7-0 deficit before collecting a reversal and a pin at the 1:15-mark to win the 174lb title.

At 285lbs, Abdelatty shined for the Bears by finishing with a perfect 4-0 record including two by fall and one by major decision. Abdelatty recorded back-to-back victories by fall to open the tournament as he pinned Camden's Garrett Gayle at the 44-second mark and Wesleyan's Will Orso at the 2:32-mark to reach the semifinals. He matched with teammate Rock III in the semifinals and used an opening period takedown enroute to a 4-2 decision. In the finals, Abdelatty put on a clinic by tallying four takedowns en route to a 19-10 major decision over ESU's Layton Schmick.

In the 141lb bracket, Schaen collected a second-place finish behind a 4-1 record. He opened with back-to-back 19-3 technical fall victories over Alfred State's Cornelius Griffin and Southern Virginia's Richie Kulessa. Next, Schaen tallied a fall at the 4:14-mark over WNE's Ayden Chang and advanced to the finals with a 5-0 decision over TCNJ's Daniel Hong. Against Muhlenberg's Andrew Loniewski in the finals, Schaen fell by a 4-1 decision in overtime as Loniewski collected a takedown in the final period.

Kmak had a great showing for Ursinus at 165lbs as he finished with a 4-1 record with three victories coming by pin.
