GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Behind a pin in the final bout, the Ursinus College men's wrestling earned a 25-14 victory over Gettysburg College on Friday evening from Bream Gym.
With the victory, Ursinus has won their fifth consecutive dual and improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Bullets fall to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. For the Bears, it marks their 14th consecutive Centennial dual meet victory since falling, 22-19, in January 2022 against the Merchant Marine Academy. It is also the Bears sixth straight victory against Gettysburg dating back to February 3rd, 2018, when they fell 24-14.

Franco Mazza got Ursinus on the board at 125lbs as he earned a 2-0 decision over Gettysburg's Noah Hinkel to give the Bears a 3-0 match lead. Next, junior
Michael Adams increased the Bears lead to 7-0 behind a 12-1 major decision over Kyle Collins at 133lbs.
The 141lb bout featured two ranked wrestlers within Region III as sophomore
Andrew Schaen ranks sixth and Gettysburg's Brendan Callahan sits in seventh. Schaen jumped out to an early 7-2 lead tallying a pair of first period takedowns. In the second period, Callahan gained a reversal before being called for a "locked hands" to make the score 8-5 heading into the third stanza. Schaen choose neutral to open the third and defended off a shot from Callahan, before spinning around for the three points and increasing his lead to 11-4. After an escape from Callahan, Schaen once again denied a shot and recorded a takedown to extend his lead to 14-5 and earned the major decision for the Bears.
With Ursinus leading 11-0 in the match, Gettysburg's Ethan Composto (Ranked third in the region) met sophomore
Max Parnis (Ranked sixth in Region III) in the 149lb match. Composto grabbed the opening takedown, while an escape from Parnis made the score 3-1 with 2:30 remaining in the opening period. Composto closed out the opening stanza with an additional four takedowns and increased his lead to 12-4 heading into the second period. Composto added an escape and a takedown to extend his lead to 16-5, before Parnis recorded a takedown to make the match score 16-8 heading into the final period. Composto choose neutral to open the third and tallied a takedown enroute to a 19-9 major decision to make the dual score 11-4.
At 157lbs, senior
Wesley Tosto fell by a 9-4 decision against Gettysburg's Gavin Pascoe to make the dual score 11-7. Tosto defended off an early shot from Pascoe before the Gettysburg wrestler earned a double leg takedown and controlled a 3-1 lead heading into the second period. Pascoe chose bottom and collected a reversal to extend his lead to 5-2 entering the final stanza. Tosto chose bottom to open the third and earned a pair of points off a stall call and an escape to cut his deficit to 5-4. With under a minute remaining in the match, Pascoe tallied his second takedown enroute to a 9-4 decision.
Gettysburg's Justin Richey collected the opening takedown of the match against sophomore
Braden Kmak at 165lbs. Shortly after, Kmak answered with an escape and a takedown to make the match score 4-3 with 1:30 remaining in the period. Richey responded with a reversal to close out the first period, before earning another reversal to open the second to extend his lead to 7-4. He rode out the remainder of the period on top and held a three-point advantage heading into the final period. Richey added his third reversal of the match in the final stanza and collected the 10-5 decision to cut the Bears match score to 11-10.
Junior
Anthony Cerulli matched up against Gettysburg's Kobe McHugh-Moore in the 174lb match. Cerulli nearly added a pair of takedowns to open the first period, but a potentially dangerous and a great scramble from Moore kept the match tied with 1:30 remaining in the opening period. Next, Cerulli added a takedown and four nearfall points on a cradle attempt to jump out to a 7-1 advantage. In the second period, Cerulli locked up a pair of cradle attempts to increase his lead to 15-1, before a reversal ended the period with the score 15-3. With the final period starting in neutral, Cerulli collected the technical fall with a sweep single for the 18-3 victory.
Ursinus held a 16-10 match lead with three matches remaining as junior
Nils Updale meet Gettysburg's Carson Pascoe at 184lbs. With under 10 seconds remaining in the opening period, Updale used a double leg to secure the first takedown and a 3-0 lead heading into the second stanza. Updale recorded an escape to open the second period and entered the final stanza leading 4-0. Pascoe answered with an escape of his own to open the third, before Updale closed out the bout with a takedown to earn the 8-2 decision and increase the Bears lead to 19-10.
At 197lbs, senior
Connor Fritsch opened with a high single leg to secure the first takedown over Gettysburg's Phil Nave. After an escape from Nave to end the first period, he regained a 6-3 lead after his second escape and a takedown to end the second period. Fritsch chose neutral to open the final period, but a takedown from Nave increased his lead to 9-3 enroute to 10-3 decision.
In the deciding bout with the match score 19-14, sophomore
Mohamed Abdelatty meet Gettysburg's Simon Taylor at 285lbs. Abdelatty nearly secured two takedowns in the opening frame but entered the second stanza tied at zero. Abdelatty opened on top and gave up a reversal but closed out the stanza with an escape to make the score 2-1 heading into the third stanza. After a quick escape to open the third, Abdelatty secured a takedown during a scramble before tallying the pinfall at the 6:04-mark to give Ursinus a 25-14 match victory.
The Bears will return to action on Thursday, February 6th as they host Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m. from Helfferich Hall.
