LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team completed day two of competition at the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday from Franklin & Marshall College.
The Bears have totaled 98 team points and currently sit in sixth place in the tournament standings. Swarthmore College (379) currently is the leader of the pack with Gettysburg (303), and Franklin & Marshall (173) rounding out the top-three of the standings. Dickinson College (139) and Washington College (115) are just ahead of the Bears, while McDaniel (78) and Bryn Mawr (62) round out the eight-team field.
On Thursday evening, Ursinus opened with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of sophomores
Morgan Valeriano,
Melanie Hahn, senior
Molly Stevens, and junior
Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 1:49.06. The Bears responded with a bronze medal performance in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Bozzomo, Hahn, Valeriano, and senior
Emily Carkhuff totaled a time of 7:43.80.
In the B-Final of Friday's 500-yard freestyle, Carkhuff earned a fifth-place finish as she touched the wall at 5:15.83. Next, Valeriano posted a personal best time of 2:07.33 in the 200-yard IM, placing sixth overall, and ranking fourth all-time in program history. In the B-Final of the 50-yard freestyle, Bozzomo collected a seventh-place finish behind a time of 24.67. She finished just shy of her career best time of 24.40 which occurred at conferences last season.
The Bears return to the pool tomorrow morning as session four starts at 10 a.m. from McGinness Pool.
