COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Head baseball coach
Kyle Lindsay announced that bench coach Fredi González has accepted a position with the Atlanta Braves.
González will serve as the acting third base coach for Atlanta after spending this past season as the Bears' bench coach. He previously managed the Braves from 2011 to 2016 and the Miami Marlins from 2007 to 2010. Before joining Ursinus, he spent five seasons on the Baltimore Orioles' staff, including three as bench coach.
"We are incredibly grateful to Fredi for everything he has brought to our coaching staff and baseball program this season," Lindsay said. "His knowledge of the game, leadership and unwavering dedication have made a lasting impact on our team. He is not only an outstanding coach, but also a trusted mentor and friend. While we will miss having Fredi around, we wish him nothing but continued success in Atlanta."
González has recorded 710 career wins across both managerial stops, including leading the Braves to the National League East title in 2013. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 1982 amateur draft and spent six seasons as a catcher in the Yankees' farm system.
Atlanta currently ranks fourth in the NL East with a 27-31 record this season.
