COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's swimming team dominated Washington College, earning a critical Centennial Conference victory by a score of 130-67 on Saturday.
The win improves Ursinus to 6-6 overall to close the regular season, including a 3-3 mark in conference action. The Shorewomen finish the season at 4-8 overall and 2-6 in Centennial Conference play.
A relay team of sophomore
Maria Wehmeyer, junior
Mia Tamburrino, and first-years
Isabella Warren and
Lindsay Willis opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, touching in 1:56.52. First-year
Caelan Ladd followed with her first individual win of the meet, claiming the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:02.46. Ladd later added a second victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.28.
Senior
Sara Bozzomo continued the Bears' early momentum, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.59. It was a memorable Senior Day for Ursinus' lone graduating swimmer, as Bozzomo also captured the 500-yard freestyle title in 5:33.15.
Ursinus earned key points in the 50-yard freestyle, with Willis finishing second in 26.65 and junior
Emelia Bowen placing third in 27.55. The Bears followed with a major momentum swing in the 400-yard individual medley, as juniors
Morgan Valeriano (4:48.17) and
Melanie Hahn (4:56.11), along with first-year
Kendell Goelz (5:08.35), swept the top three finishes.
The momentum continued in the 100-yard butterfly, where junior
Sylvi Lynch (1:02.69), Warren and first-year
Addison Dunlop (1:07.18) posted the top three times. Valeriano then secured her second individual win of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.46, while Hahn added another runner-up finish in 55.76.
Tamburrino (1:17.18) and Bowen (1:22.15) placed second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke to extend the Bears' lead. Ursinus closed the meet in record-breaking fashion, as Ladd, Bozzomo, Hahn and Valeriano won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:32.84. The quartet shattered the Bears' pool record, putting an exclamation point on the regular season by etching their names into program history.
Ursinus will now prepare for the Centennial Conference Championships, which begin Thursday, Feb. 19, at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
