COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus women's lacrosse senior defender
Abby Burkholder was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Burkholder anchored the Bears' defense in a 14-4 victory over Moravian on Saturday. The Etters, Pennsylvania, native forced two turnovers and collected five ground balls while helping Ursinus limit Moravian to nine shots on goal.
Last season, Burkholder started all 18 games for the Bears and led the team in ground balls (25) and caused turnovers (21). She ranked 12th in the Centennial Conference with an average of 1.17 caused turnovers per game. The honor marks the first weekly conference award of Burkholder's career and the first for a Bear since
Julia McCann earned the distinction in May 2023.
The Bears return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they host Neumann University in their 2026 home opener at 4 p.m.
