WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Ursinus men's golf team returned to the links and opened its spring slate at The Ruckus tournament, hosted by Williamsburg National Golf Club – Jamestown Course, on Saturday afternoon.
Eight Bears competed at Williamsburg National, a par-72 course that stretches 6,953 yards. Ursinus posted a team score of 345 (+57) and currently ranks 11th in the standings.Salisbury leads the field, posting a team total of 289 (+1) with Drew University (292), and McDaniel College (300) rounding out the top-three teams.
Sophomore
Aidan Bonczek leads the Bears with a first-round score of 83 (+11) and is tied for 42nd. His round featured 10 pars, including five straight from holes 13 through 17. He carded an 8-over 44 on the front nine before finishing with a 3-over 39 on the back.
Senior
Jimmy Cage and first-year
Lucas Milliken are tied for 50th after each shooting an 87 (+15). Cage recorded a 6-over 42 on the front nine before posting a 9-over 45 on the back. Milliken's round
was highlighted by a pair of birdies on the par-5 seventh and par-5 14th holes.
First-years
Jason Walsh (T-50th) and
JP Hoban (T-55th) rounded out the Bears' lineup with rounds of 88 and 89, respectively. Walsh totaled eight pars and finished 1-over on the four par-3 holes. Hoban shot a 14-over 50 on the front nine but rebounded with a 3-over 39 on the back. He recorded four straight pars from holes 11 through 14 before adding a birdie on the par-4 15th.
Senior
Slade Figard, along with juniors
Trevor Maden and
Logan Jones, competed as individuals. Maden led the trio with an 85 (+13) and is tied for 46th. His round included a birdie on the par-5 seventh and five pars on the back nine. Jones shot an 88 (+16) and is tied for 53rd, while Figard sits 59th after a round of 94.
The Bears return to action Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. for the second round of The Ruckus.
