COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Playing their second game in as many
days, the Ursinus College baseball team scored seven runs in the
first inning in a 10-2 defeat of Lebanon Valley (10-4) Thursday
afternoon in non-conference play.
The Bears (8-6) batted around in the first inning, as the first
seven batters in the lineup scored runs. The inning was highlighted
by a three-run homerun off the bat of junior third baseman
Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).
LVC pitcher Brian Miller issued six walks in the inning.
Sophomore shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Glibertsville,
Pa./Boyertown) had a two-run single to cap the scoring for
the Bears in the first.
The Bears went up 8-0 in the second as sophomore centerfielder
Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) singled home
sophomore first baseman Rich Guthridge (Schwenksville,
Pa./Spring-Ford).
After LVC tacked on two in the third on a wild pitch and a
single by second baseman Dylan Holland, the Bears scored the final
two runs of the game in the sixth as Guthridge scored on a wild
pitch and freshman catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick,
Maine/Brunswick) singled home senior designated hitter
Tommy Clarke (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon)
Sophomore pitcher Sean Grimes (Villanova,
Pa./Radnor) got the win, improving to 2-1. He pitched
seven innings, striking out two and walked three. Freshman pitcher
Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) pitched the
final two innings, allowing just one hit.
Sullivan, Vogt and Gresh all finished with two hits, while Vogt
had three RBI.
Ursinus will be at Haverford Friday.
