COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team took
a break from its conference slate on Thursday, and came away with a
10-7 win over Penn State-Brandywine.
The Bears scored four times in the second and three times in the
sixth, and had to fend off a late Nittany Lions (2-3) rally in the
top of the eighth.
For the Bears, senior outfielder Bret Umstead (Green
Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was 3-for-4 with a run scored,
while senior outfielder Tommy Clarke (Whitehouse Station,
N.J./Hunterdon) was 3-for-3 with a run scored.
Junior third baseman Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton
Hall Prep), sophomore outfielder Ben Gresh
(Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and freshman catcher
Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) each had
two runs batted in
Sophomore pitcher Sean Grimes (Villanova,
Pa./Radnor) got the win, as he struck out five and walked
just two in five innings of work. Freshman pitcher Ryan
Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) got the save, pitching a
hitless ninth inning.
