COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's
tennis team scored a 6-3 win over Franklin & Marshall on
Thursday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.
The Bears (4-5, 1-2 Centennial) won all three doubles matches,
including third flight by default. At first flight, senior
Jenna Hope (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) and junior
Julia Kurtz (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts)
defeated Meredith Lackey and Dana Russo, 8-5. At number two flight,
sophomore Jimena Talavera (Rockville, Md./Walter
Johnson) and freshman Jessica Tyrrell (Shamong,
N.J./Seneca) defeated Valeri Harteg and Katie Ertel, 8-4.
In singles play, the Bears scored a win at number six flight
over the Diplomats (5-4, 1-2 Centennial) by default.
At first flight, Hope defeated Lackey, 6-1, 6-3. Russo defeated
Kurtz at number two flight, 6-3, 6-1. At number three flight,
Harteg defeated Talavera, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6. The Diplomats final point
came at number four flight as Ertel defeated Tyrrell, 6-3, 6-0.
At number five flight, senior Leah Stambaugh (Hanover,
Pa./New Oxford) defeated Vicky Balonik, 6-4, 6-3.
