COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus swept a Centennial Conference
doubleheader from Dickinson on Saturday to increase their lead on
first place in the league.
In game one, Ursinus defeated the Red Devils 8-2, while the
Bears (18-2, 8-0 Centennial) took game two from the Red Devils
(11-13, 4-4 Centennial) 1-0.
In game one, Ursinus took a 5-0 lead after three innings. The
Bears took a 2-0 lead after the first inning on a two-run home run
by freshman catcher Emelie
McFarland (Sykesville, Md./Century). In the third, freshman
first baseman Allison
Pfrommer (Frankinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) started the
inning with a triple, then scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman
left fielder Amy Gentile
(Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley).
Sophomore right fielder Kelly
Kalovcak (Pottsville, Pa./Minersville Area) had a two-run
double to cap the scoring in the inning.
Ursinus tacked on three runs in the sixth as McFarland, freshman
left fielder Samantha
Lowes (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) and sophomore shortstop Cassie
Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had RBI.
In game one, senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica
Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) got the win, striking out ten and
walked two in improving to 14-1.
McFarland finished with two hits and three RBI.
In game two, the lone run came across in the first inning
Kalovcak singled home Gentile.
Freshman pitcher Jennilyn
Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) went the first five
innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Davis-Macedonia
got the save, her second of the season. She struck out one.
Kalovcak, freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan
(Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), junior third baseman Kristen
Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and freshman
center fielder Caitlin
Higgins (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) each had two
hits.
