WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ursinus ran its win streak to 12 games
as the Bears swept a softball doubleheader from McDaniel on Sunday
afternoon.
The Bears (20-2, 10-0 Centennial) won the first game 5-0, then
took the nightcap from the Green Terror (11-17, 1-7 Centennial)
5-2.
In the opener, Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the
third as freshman center fielder Caitlin Higgins (Mickleton,
N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored on a RBI double by freshman left
fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley).
Ursinus would add a run in the fifth and sixth innings, as
freshman pinch runner Kelsey Coyne scored on a RBI double by
sophomore right fielder Kelly Kalovcak (Pottstown, Pa./Minersville
Area) in the fifth, followed by a RBI single from sophomore pinch
hitter Kate Kehoe in the sixth that scored senior designated player
Jamie Miles (Shamong, N.J./Seneca).
In the seventh, the Bears put two runs on the board as sophomore
shortstop Cassie Brown and sophomore second baseman Abby Sido
(Hershey, Pa./Hershey) had RBI hits.
Gentile finished game one 3-for-4, while Kalovcak, Sido, Higgins
and freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan) had two hits.
Senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill,
N.J./Clearview Regional) got the win in game one, improving to
15-1. She struck out 13 and scattered three hits.
Game two saw Ursinus scored four runs in the top of the first to
put the contest out of reach.
Jerdan finished game two 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while
freshman first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea
Regional) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Davis-Macedonia got the win in the nightcap, fanning 11.
Ursinus will host Haverford on Tuesday.
