COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team
scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back
in a 7-0 win over Swarthmore in a game shortened to five innings
due to rain.
With the win, Ursinus improved to 14-14-1 and 5-9 in league
play, while Swarthmore fell to 16-12, 8-6 in league play.
Senior pitcher Corey Weaver
(West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) gave up just one hit in the game,
striking out and walking two in earning the win to improve to
4-2.
Senior left fielder Tommy Clarke
(Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon) and sophomore center field Ben Gresh
(Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) each had three hits in the win.
In the first, Clarke and Gresh had RBI hits that scored
sophomore shortstop Brandon
Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and junior third
baseman Rob
Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).
Clarke would later score on a RBI double by sophomore first
baseman Rich
Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) to end the
inning.
In the third, Clarke scored on a bases loaded walk, followed by
Gresh scoring on a Garnet error.
Ursinus put two more on in the fifth as Gresh doubled home
Clarke and Vogt.
Gresh finished with three RBI on the day.
Ursinus will head to McDaniel on Saturday.
