GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus split a Centennial Conference
softball doubleheader on Saturday with Gettysburg.
In the first game, Gettysburg scored three runs in the third and
sixth in a 6-2 win, while Ursinus (21-3, 11-1 Centennial) battled
back in game two to blank the Bullets (17-12-1, 9-5 Centennial)
4-0.
In the opener, Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first
as freshman pinch runner Kelsey Coyne (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove)
scored on a RBI single by sophomore right fielder Kelly Kalovcak
(Pottsville, Pa./Minersville Area).
Gettysburg scored three in the third as Adrienne Rahs had a
two-run double, then scored on a RBI single by Sarah Woodbury.
In the sixth, Gettysburg took a 6-1 lead as Lanie Parr had a
two-run single, followed by a RBI single by Lindsey Peragallo.
Ursinus' last run in the seventh came as Kalovcak drove in
freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop
Ryan). Jerdan and Kalovcak each had two hits, with Kalovcak driving
in both runs.
Senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill,
N.J./Clearview Regional) took the loss in game one, falling to
16-2. She did strike out 11 and walk one.
In game two, Ursinus got on the board in the fourth as Jerdan
homered to left field for a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Coyne scored on
an error, followed by freshman center fielder Caitlin Higgins
(Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) scoring on an error.
Ursinus tacked on one more run in the sixth as junior third
baseman Kristen Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown)
singled home sophomore catcher Rachael Vietheer (Bethpage,
N.Y./Bethpage).
Gallagher finished game two 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Freshman pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley)
got the win, moving to 4-1. She struck out two and walked one while
scattering five hits.
Ursinus hosts Immaculata on Monday.
