COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In their 2010 Centennial finale, the
Ursinus baseball team split a pair of games with Gettysburg.
The Bears took game one 7-3, while the Bullets (15-19, 6-12
Centennial) defeated Ursinus (16-18-1, 6-12 Centennial) in game two
5-2.
In the opener, Ursinus took a 3-1 lead after three innings
sophomore first baseman Rich
Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) led off the second
with a home run.
In the third, sophomore centerfielder Ben Gresh
(Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored on a RBI single by senior
designated hitter Mike Schwager
(Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown). Guthridge would later score on an
error for a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, Ursinus tacked on three more runs as junior third
baseman Rob
Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) had a RBI double
scoring sophomore shortstop Brandon
Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), followed by a two-run
double by senior left fielder Tommy Clarke
(Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon) that scored senior right
fielder Bret Umstead
(Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Vogt.
Ursinus got one run in the sixth as Guthridge homered for the
second time in the game.
Sophomore pitcher Steve
Christakos (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) got the win, going
the full seven innings. He struck out two and walked one.
Sullivan, Umstead and Guthridge all finished with three hits.
Schwager finished with two.
In the second game, Gettysburg scored two runs in the seventh
and ninth to take the win.
Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Ursinus tied the score as Sullivan
scored on a sacrifice fly by Clarke.
Ursinus would score one more time in the game, as senior catcher
Chris
Fusco (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) scored on a RBI double by
junior second baseman Danny Ludwig
(Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes).
Sullivan finished game two with two hits.
Ursinus will host Albright on Wednesday.
