COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –
Delaware Valley scored four times in the top half of the ninth
inning, including the tying run on an error, as the Aggies and
Ursinus finished in an 8-8 tie on Wednesday afternoon in
non-conference baseball play.
Ursinus (10-11-1) led 7-1
after five innings, and had held off an Aggie charge in the sixth
before DVC (8-11-1) scored the tying runs in the ninth.
For the Bears, junior
second baseman Danny
Ludwig (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) went 5-for-5 with
two runs scored. Freshman designated hitter Joe Mascali (Sag Harbor,
N.Y./Pierson), sophomore shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville,
Pa./Boyertown) and freshman left fielder Ryan Givens (Lancaster,
Pa./Lancaster Catholic) each had two hits for Ursinus,
while Sullivan and freshman catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick,
Maine/Brunswick) each had two RBI.
Ursinus used three
pitchers on the day, as sophomore pitcher Sean Grimes (Villanova,
Pa./Radnor) pitched six innings, allowing three earned
runs and striking out four. Freshman pitcher Ryan Furlong (Douglaston,
N.Y./Xavier) pitched two innings, allowing just two hits.
Freshman Allen Weaver
(Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) worked the ninth, striking out
one.
Ursinus heads to
Muhlenberg on Friday.
