BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College baseball team saw its run in the Centennial Conference tournament come to an end on Saturday morning as the Bears (14-21) dropped a 13-2 decision to Haverford (32-7) at the Johns Hopkins Baseball Diamond in the consolation game.

The Bears were held hitless by Ford junior right hand pitcher Jonny Williams through five innings, before freshman designated hitter Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) reached base on a fielding error leading off the sixth inning. Junior second baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) got the Bears' first hit of the game two batters later as he drew an infield single.

Haverford scored six runs in the first three innings and had an 11-0 lead after six.

Ursinus got two on the board in the ninth as junior shortstop Brandon Sullivan doubled to start the inning, and then scored on a RBI single by senior third baseman Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./The Hill School). Vogt would later score on a RBI ground out by junior centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove). Vogt finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Sullivan, Argentine and senior left fielder Danny Ludwig (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) each had a hit.

Junior pitcher Steve Christakos (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) took the loss, finishing the season 4-6. In two plus innings he allowed five earned runs, with one strikeout and two walks. Sophomore pitcher A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) went 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs while fanning one. Freshman Steve Berardi (Hartsville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) and sophomore Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) each pitched in relief for Ursinus.

Haverford will take on Johns Hopkins tomorrow afternoon in the championship game, as the Fords defeated F&M later in the afternoon. Haverford needs to defeat host Johns Hopkins twice to win the Centennial crown. The Fords were led by senior second baseman Louis DeRosa, senior left fielder Jeff Butera and sophomore centerfielder Matt Liscovitz who each had two hits. Williams ended with five strikeouts to improve to 7-2.
