COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team won the inaugural game on the newly named Thomas Field on Saturday, taking the back end of a doubleheader with Gettysburg, 8-2.

In the first game, the Bullets defeated Ursinus 13-0.

Between games, Ursinus formally dedicated the field to retiring head coach Brian Thomas. Thomas, who also served as Director of Athletics for ten years, is retiring in June after 23 years at Ursinus.

The Bears got a complete game win from senior Steve Christakos in the second game, as he moved to 2-3 with a four strike out, two walk performance.

Senior shortstop Brandon Sullivan went 5-for-5 in game two, with four RBI and one run scored. Senior centerfielder Ben Gresh was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI, while senior designated hitter Vince Chiaro and senior second baseman.

Lou Argentine each had two hits in the win.

Ursinus built a 7-0 lead through six innings en route to the win.

In game one, Ursinus was held to six hits in the loss.

Senior Nate Schnell pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out four.

Senior right fielder Garrett Smith went 2-for-4 in the opener, while Sullivan, Gresh, Argentine and senior third baseman Joel Ackerman each had a hit in the loss.

Ursinus will travel to McDaniel on Sunday for their Centennial Conference finale. With the loss in game one, Ursinus was eliminated from the playoffs.
