Baseball drops two to Dickinson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team, scheduled to play two nine-inning games against Dickinson on Saturday, played 18 innings in the first game before falling to the Red Devils 3-2.

In game two, Dickinson (11-17, 2-7 Centennial) completed the sweep over the Bears (6-18, 2-7 Centennial) in an eight-inning game that was shortened due to darkness by a 7-6 score.

The 18 inning game is one of the longest in Centennial history.

Several Centennial records were tied in the game, with five Dickinson batters tying the at-bat record with eight at bats.

Also during the 18-inning affair, Ursinus senior pitcher Chris Ryder actually threw nine innings of no-hit baseball. He allowed three hits during his tenth inning on the mound, eventually giving up the game-winning run to fall to 1-3. He fanned seven and walked two.

Dickinson took a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning of game one, before Ursinus answered back with a  run in the eighth as Chris Menzies singled home Ralph Aurora with two outs. In the ninth, Ursinus tied the score when Alex Manacher was forced home when Josh Schnell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Dickinson scored the winning run in the top of 18th,  but, Ursinus had a chance with two runners one with two outs but could not push the winning run across.

James Hoff finished 4-for-7 in game one, with Aurora collecting three hits and Schnell netting two.

Starting pitcher Jake Kohler struck out eight and walked three in eight innings work.
Ursinus fell behind in game two, 5-0, after two innings before getting all five runs back in the third. The big hit was a two-run single from Chris Jablonski with two outs. Ursinus took a 6-5 lead in the sixth when Manacher scored on a RBI single by Aurora.

Dickinson, however, scored one in the seventh and one in the eighth to take the win.

Manacher took the loss in relief, dropping to 2-1. He and Aurora finished with two hits in the second game.

Ursinus heads to F&M on Sunday.
