Baseball splits with McDaniel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College baseball team spilt a doubleheader with McDaniel on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears, needing to win both to keep their playoff hopes alive, scored three times in the tenth to defeat the Green Terror 6-3, while in game two the Bears (17-16, 8-10 Centennial) saw McDaniel (15-17, 9-8 Centennial) score a run in the seventh to take a 3-2 win.

The opener saw the Bears take a 3-1 lead into the ninth before McDaniel scored two in the bottom of the ninth to force free baseball.

Ursinus got on the board in the second when freshman Austin Feuerman scored on a RBI single by freshman CJ Diana. Ursinus went up 2-0 in the sixth when Diana would score on a RBI double by freshman Vincent Terry. In the ninth, Vince Rondolone hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored senior Ralph Aurora.

In the tenth, Ursinus put three on with one out and freshman Timo Muro struck with a three-run double to right to put Ursinus up for good. In the ninth, senior Steve Berardi got the win when he got out in four batters. Berardi allowed one hit in 1.1 innings.

Muro finished with three hits, while sophomore Chris Jablonski and Aurora, along with sophomore Devyn Kerr and Terry all finished with two hits.

In the second game, Ursinus got to within one in the fourth when Jablonski scored on a RBI single by freshman Jose Colon. Ursinus would tie the score in the sixth when Jablonski scored again on a RBI double by Colon.

Colon finished game two with two hits and two RBI, while Jablonski was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Muro had two hits as well.

Senior Chris Ryder took the loss in relief of Berardi, going five innings allowing just one hit and one unearned run while walking five.

Despite the loss, Ursinus finished the conference schedule with five more runs than last season and coming into Sunday's game with DeSales, has ten more wins than last season. The Bears, regardless of the outcome against DeSales, will finish with a non-losing record for the first time since the Bears went 25-11-2 in 2009.
