Women's Tennis Nipped by Dickinson

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team fell just short in a Centennial Conference nail-biter with Dickinson on Saturday, as the Red Devils eked out a three-setter at fifth singles to seal an eventual 5-4 victory at the Bailey Courts.

Dickinson (4-3, 1-2) took two of three doubles matches, providing just enough of an edge to secure its first conference win of the season.

Ursinus (6-3, 0-2), ranked 12th in the Atlantic South region, fell behind 2-0 before junior Christine Palazzolo and senior S.J. Seabra pulled out a 9-7 marathon at number three doubles to keep the Bears within striking distance.

Dickinson prevailed at first and fourth singles to seize a 4-1 lead, but senior BreAnna Bashaw kept Ursinus alive with a 6-1, 7-6 (10) result at number two, and sophomore Aileen Bevard got the home side to within a single court after a 6-4, 6-3 verdict at number three.

The match came down to fifth and sixth singles, and both went to three sets. Unfortunately, the Red Devils' Emily Sprague captured a 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2 victory at number five to render Seabra's 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 comeback moot.

The Bears next take on Haverford at home on Tuesday, April 5.
