Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior Ashley Nguyen registered an impressive win at number two singles as the Ursinus College women's tennis team opened Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall.
Nguyen handled Sarah Haas by a 6-2, 7-5 final for the lone win of the day for the Bears (5-3, 0-1), who were forced to play indoors due to the remnants of the winter storm.
Ursinus was competitive on a number of courts. Nguyen and BeVard dropped an 8-4 decision to Haas and Allison Wolters at number one doubles. Senior Ariel Danziger battled Gavriel Rubenstein to a 6-2, 7-5 decision on the third singles court, and BeVard fell by a 6-3, 6-4 final against Wolters at number one.
Nguyen's singles win was the 28th of her career, moving her to within one of fifth place all-time at Ursinus.
The Bears resume CC play at home against Swarthmore on Tuesday.
